LANGUAGE IS ALWAYS CONNECTED TO REALITY

(Joshua Peliño, BA-Philosophy 3)

Language is a universal thing in which we use it as our medium for communication, direction, expressing thought and ideas. We can simply convey a message with the use of language and we cannot deny the fact that most of us are dependent in language and it is easy for us to express or idea, thought  or even dictate and language as a method for communion help us to understand the meaning of things. In is easy for us to label things as our means for convention, language as a tool may help us for development.

Ludwig Wittgenstein, a prominent figure of modern philosophy presents us a notion that language and reality is connected, I mean language for it to be reliable, truth and clear if it is anchored in reality. Language must be connected in reality and by that we can easy associate things by means of reality, why? It is because language that we can see or the phenomenon depicts us reality, and it is hard for us to convey things if we cannot simply see visibly the things we want to say. Many languages that are not seen in reality and for Wittgenstein we must neglect it and it is nonsense to argue or tell if we cannot see it in our eyes, for example, we cannot simply say unicorn exist because the mere fact that we don’t have any facts or references that unicorn exist, the use of language in the sentence may cause vagueness and doubtful, for us to have a truthful language it must coincide in reality.

Beyond science and world, language is doubtful, if it is only in our minds we cannot say that it exist in reality therefore we cannot rely only what our minds feeds us. Language must exist in reality, science offers us truth in a way that language can be observe, seen and examine because we see the phenomenon, world is also real because what we see in the world we can say that it exist. ‘But if we are going to include metaphysics, aesthetics and even ethics, we cannot simply state the fact, but we should also consider those abstract language in a way that some of the language is also meaningful and it exist in reality.

Truly, language must be connected in reality because it will make the language meaningful and truth. We cannot simply deny the fact that language is reliable if we use language that are limited only in mind. Therefore, I firmly agree with Wittgenstein that language itself must always connected in reality so that language may be meaningful, reliable and true.
